Love to Torah and commandments
may well be thought to a Jewish child through the love to Sefer
Torah. Bringing little kids to the synagogue and letting them
kiss the velvet cover of the Torah scroll will be curved in
their memories for the rest of their life. But of course, dancing
around the bimah on the Simchat Torah Festival is the pivotal
experience for the Jewish children who inherit the tradition
and pass it to the next generation.
Bar mitzvah is, of course, pivotal in terms of Torah learning.
Each Jewish kid has to learn cancellation sings, diacritic
signs and the text itself in order to be able to chant a portion
of the text. The text on the parchment does not have any signs
- or marks of the ends and beginnings of the periods. Therefore
a kid needs to master a wealth of skills before he can fulfill
the task of chanting. Thus Sefer Torah serves his guide to
the both worlds - that of learning Torah and adulthood. |
